The prep: There was no question where I was going for my costume. Mallatt's on Monroe Street is a Madison institution — in business at that location for 70 years — and it's right around the corner from my house. I wanted a margarita glass — a salute to Buffett's biggest hit song — but settled for a plastic goblet ($2.99). Buffett's most devoted fans are known as Parrotheads, so I grabbed a strap-on parrot ($14.99) to complete my costume. "We're a little over budget," I said. "Lie," my consultant said. I also didn't shave for a couple of days, because one reason to be a rock and roll star is that you don't have to shave.
