Years after the seed of an idea was first planted is Gary’s head, the Cedar Hill Chapel has blossomed into that “little piece of serenity,” as his wife, Christina, calls it.
The idea for building a small, rustic chapel came to Gary after his daughter, Angela Simons, died in February 2007 of health problems.
He wanted the chapel to be a memorial, but between family and working, the building was always put off.
“Time, money, it’s always something,” Gary said.
Then Gary’s wife also died, and he moved to Strafford for several months. But he knew he needed to return to his hometown of Marshfield.
“For some reason, I was sent back home,” he said.
And he knew it was time to build the chapel he’d had in his mind.
Gary’s original idea was to simply leave the building unlocked, open for anyone in need of a place to go for peace and quiet. Though he realized the impracticality of that, the building is still open nearly every day and into the evenings. People are welcome to contact the Prices in advance, or simply drop by. Anyone who wishes to use the building for an event, such as for a wedding, may do so free of charge.
