Minister changes plans for son's wedding
After the earthquake occurred in Van province on Sunday left many people to die beneath the rubble of collapsed buildings, the minister announced some changes to the initial plans for the wedding, which will take place on Friday at the Ankara Sheraton Hotel, out of respect for earthquake victims.
The minister said the Turkish tradition of putting jewelry on the bride or the groom during the wedding will not be observed at Çağan Çağlayan’s wedding. Instead, the guests will have the opportunity to send money to a bank account reserved for donations if they wish to do so. This money will be sent to Van for quake victims.
Minister Çağlayan said that the wedding ceremony will not be spectacular; instead it will be a plain ceremony, adding that they won’t invite many guests to the ceremony only the president, the prime minister, some politicians, some businessmen and relatives.
In the meantime, some media outlets collected about TL 130 million in various aid programs for the earthquake victims. Samanyolu TV channel collected TL 65 million on the program titled “Kardeşlik Zamanı” (It is time for brotherhood) for the victims. Fourteen TV and radio stations, including ATV and Kanal D, collected TL 60 million in various programs over the past four days.
