Where can I hire a wedding dress in the Edinburgh/Glasgow area?

My wedding is still a long way off but I am starting to put together my plans. I'm not willing to spend £1k on a dress I will only ever wear once and would really like to hire a dress for the big day.

Hi, for what you will pay for the hire of a dress you can get one made. I bought mine through ebay custom made to my size and only cost £95. If you want i can let you see some pics.

A week with the Queen

It has been a mini Windsor in Canberra over the past week. The Queen and Prince Philip have been everywhere, on what many believe may be their last visit to Australia. Although no one can be sure, with the Queen at 85 and the Duke of Edinburgh at 90, still able to set a cracking pace.

Queen Elizabeth can only be pleased with the warm reception she has had from the public. There may not have been the enormous crowds who came out to see her on the first visit in 1954, but in Canberra, on a school day, the Queen still managed to draw at least a couple of thousand people to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin to watch her cruise by on a launch.

Make no mistake the Queen draws a crowd because she puts on a good show.

Over the past week it has been my job to bring that show to the nation, to reflect the colour and movement and to record the formal duties performed by the Queen on her official tour.

If only it was all frocks and pearls. Don't get me wrong the Queen is absolutely lovely. At close quarters it's quickly evident she is about as gracious as a person can get. She and Prince Philip obviously take their job seriously, and enjoy themselves at the same time. Each bank of small children holding bouquets aloft saw the faces of the royal couple light up, with Prince Philip almost bypassing an official welcoming party to greet the young fans.

Claire & Stevie's Sydney meets Edinburgh garden wedding | Offbeat ...

The offbeat bride: Claire, Architect

Her offbeat partner: Stevie, Sailmaker

Date and location of wedding: Kirknewton Stables , Edinburgh, UK — July 13, 2011

What made our wedding offbeat: I never dreamt about being a bride like other girls, so Stevie and I started from scratch with how we wanted the day to be. My black and white dress was a huge secret (only my mum and bridesmaids knew) and everyone gasped when I walked into the garden. I never wear white, so it seemed ridiculous I would wear white on our wedding day. I looked at amazing vintage gowns and had not really considered black until I saw the black tulle skirt in a shop window on Gertrude Street in Melbourne. The store, Sadotna , is full of black pieces and nothing else, so it was hilarious when we told the shop assistant it was for my wedding.

I have a question. Were all of your Australian friends and relatives familiar with the tradition of men wearing their own tartans? My fiance is Scottish and wanted to dress his whole party in his tartan, however 2 of our American groomsmen SHOCKED us by saying they had their own tartans and would love to wear that. Which we are totally stoked about! However, I'm worried that my all American family will be confused by some of the men being in one tartan while two are in different tartans? How did you explain that to your non-Scottish guests, if at all?...

Overwhelmed.

That’s the word that I’d use to very best describe myself nowadays. Also incited. I’m hovering in between overwhelmed and excited. It s ticklish.

So a lot has occurred within the last 6 weeks that its generating my head whirl to believe about it, but here goesa€¦.(deep inhalation)a€¦we have met with our florist and decided on bouquets, button holes and centrepieces. And my oh my are they going to be purdy! I wish I could let you know which flowers had been agreeable functioned but this really is so not my forte. Alls I can let you know is the fact that they’re super colourful and smell truly agreeable!

We met with our jewellers and tried above our matrimony rings….which was freakin extraordinary! What an odd factor that this small band of gold ambition forever symbolize (retinue the 22nd July), that I’m a married laydee. Le weep.

We also met with our wedding coordinator and ran via the all day and timings and edible and beverage and some much more food. It was really following this rendezvous while I was left having a consciousness that could only be very best narrated as a€œwoaha€. I at not means regarded as the degree of elaborate that we required to cover, e.g. how lengthy it’ll take to shepherd in and seat 115 individuals into the space for the wedding breakfast. How they dispense the time for the lectures. Do you’ve a cake? Do you would like it on a detach stand? Do you would like the ruddy carpet (yet deliberating!)? When will your florist turn up? Who’s your DJ? What size shoes do you dress? Ok ok, I threw that 1 in there but you obtain the jist!
