Although the Victorian white wedding dominates western bridal dress and large portions of former colonial empires, marriage rituals vary significantly throughout the world. The Japanese, for instance, combine both traditional ceremonies with receptions utilizing western approaches to dress. In the Andes the bride will personally create a multi-layered dress to showcase her weaving skills. Brides Hungrier Than Ever For Deals

Newton, MA (PRWEB) October 24, 2011

Hundreds of brides-to-be are busy honing their bargain-hunting skills for the next Running of the Brides® sale on October 28, 2011 at Filene’s Basement in Newton, MA. Over 1700 designer wedding gowns that would normally sell for as much as $8,000 will be up for grabs, priced from $249 to $699.

According to The Knot, the Boston area ranks seventh on the list of most expensive cities in which to hold a wedding, with an average cost of over $35,000. In an uncertain economy, couples are scrutinizing every line item looking for ways to trim their wedding costs. “When the economy shrinks, so do wedding budgets,” said store manager Paul Avery. “Finding a dress at the Running of the Brides® can save hundreds, even thousands of dollars.”

Shopping for a gown at the ROTB, the acronym brides have given the sale, involves some time-honored rituals. When the doors open at 8:00am, it’s a free-for-all as brides and helpers spread their arms wide, lifting five or six gowns off the racks at one time. In less than two minutes, the racks are bare. The store becomes one giant fitting room, with brides trying on dresses on the sales floor while helpers fan out to trade the surplus, hoping one of the trades will result in the perfect dress.
