Fashion maestro's new mission

YOUNG Mareeba designer Nigel Vogler is ramping up the next stage of his fashion career.

Mr Vogler created Jaydee Paino’s winning Melbourne Cup day outfit and was one of the standouts from Cairns TAFE fashion studies last year.

He has been shortlisted to win a six-month paid apprenticeship with Australian designer Alex Perry.

Run in conjunction with appliance company Electrolux, the competition required entrants to submit their design for an evening wear gown and demonstrate thoughtful use of materials to suit the needs of busy Australian women.

The winner will accompany Mr Perry and his team during day to day duties, such as assisting with the development of dresses in the studio workroom, sourcing fabrics, meeting clients and preparing for and working backstage at the designer’s fashion shows.

Mr Vogler has been advised his design has been chosen for consideration and finalists will be chosen by the end of the month.
