Denis Gagnon fuses city and country in light-hearted closing show at Fashion Week
TORONTO - With smiling models skipping, dancing and twirling down the runway, Denis Gagnon brought Toronto's LG Fashion Week to a fun-filled close Friday evening with a light-hearted presentation of looks inspired by city and country.
The more sombre, mysterious tone set by the opening short film was immediately transformed when lights went up on the runway with menswear-inspired garments infused with plenty of whimsical, feminine touches.
The shimmering garden-inspired floral print played prominently, featured on pleats, exposed pockets, tuxedo-style jackets and capris. There was also black-and-white plaid in the mix in fitted jackets and flouncy pleated skorts.
Many of the pieces captured the stark contrast between hard and soft, with sheer mock-neck sleeveless shirts fashioned with leather bras, satin sleeveless jumpers and billowing tented dresses fashioned with belted straps and fasteners.
In a celebratory, wedding-themed conclusion to the presentation, two female models â one wearing a tuxedo-style shortall, the other in a white-sleeved dress toting a bouquet â walked arm-in-arm down the runway and stopped to exchanged a quick smooch. Gagnon and the other models darted down the runway to join in the party, bringing curtains down on Fashion Week festivities.
