Gowns Galore sale nears
CHESTER - Anyone able to drop off gowns for the Gowns Galore sale may do so 6-9 p.m. Monday as well as 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, said Sherry Emery, one of the event organizers.
The Gowns Galore sale is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Chester First United Methodist Church. The drop-off point is also the church, which is located at 240 Carolina Ave.
For a fee of $5 per dress, area girls are encouraged to bring in those gently worn prom or homecoming dresses to be sold at the price they establish.
Proceeds benefit Chester-Newell FISH, a social service organization. If the dress sells, the seller receives the money. Only cash will be accepted at the sale.
Emery said inquiries about Gowns Galore have continued since last year's event. She said she was even receiving phone calls at home while she was on a beach vacation this summer.
Once gowns are dropped off, photos will be available on Facebook at Gowns Galore. Emery said volunteers will help organize the dresses. One volunteer plans to round up models who wear different sizes so photos can be taken of people wearing the dresses, rather than having them displayed only on hangars, Emery said.

My wife Jeanine and her family have vacationed on Martha’s Vineyard since she was a child and after our first year of dating I accompanied her family to Edgartown for summer vacation. Shortly afterwards I received my first VV striped polo and UNC footprint vineyard vines tie. I immediately fell in love with vineyard vines and we both knew if we decided to get married we would have vineyard vines incorporated into our wedding somehow. We decided to get married on October 1, 2011 in Edgartown, MA and what better place to support vineyard vines than the location of the first store.
As we made preparations for the wedding, we decided to go with the theme of my alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am a lifelong Tar Heel and I wanted my groomsmen to wear the Carolina Blue UNC Tar Heel VV Tie as the majority were UNC alumni as well. I found a great VV footprint bow tie to compliment my ensemble and had my niece wear a beautiful VV flower girl dress while my nephew wore a stunning VV bow tie and a VV 2 button wool blazer. The wedding party looked amazing from the Edgartown lighthouse to Main St.
