An ice rink is coming to Carrick Harbour just in time for winter. The rink will open this coming Saturday in the car park beside Carrickfergus Castle and will give locals the chance to ice skate through the Christmas season, closing on January 7th. The 600 sq m rink will feature real ice and will be covered over with a marquee. A market will open at the end of November in the car park, as will a “Santa’s Grotto.” Local officials are anticipating great interest in the attraction and are excited about the tourism revenue it will bring to the area.

Jayne Doherty and her horse Ravenstar recently made an amazing comeback, finishing third at the Three Star in Cork and continuing on their path towards the 2012 Olympics. After finishing a disappointing 27th in the dressage competition, Doherty and Ravenstar prevailed in the cross-country and show jumping stages to finish third in the competition overall. The Irish thoroughbred Ravenstar soared when other competitors fell behind due to the rainy conditions. Officials involved with Doherty’s team were very impressed and called the duo a “real contender” for London 2012.
