My then sister-in-law Cora Chaffey (nee Brandjes) was doing voluntary work with the youth in the Baulkham Hill Council area when she was asked by the [Orange Blossom] pageant organiser if she knew anyone who was in the age group and who wanted to enter, as they didn't have enough participants. They needed a minimum of eight girls/ladies as eight finalist were required.
As both Cora and I were married, (married very, very young and divorced very young) we weren't eligible to enter; however, they bent the rules to allow us to participate.
