Party memories
Mika turned one in September, so of course, I organised a party for him. Our theme was Paint Mikas First Canvas . As it was obviously going to be a very colourful party, I added in the invitation: Dress in colours.
I was the party planner and cake designer. We picked Ploy (at Work@Clearwater) as the venue because of their good food, fantastic interior and amazing service. It took me many evenings after working hours to plan this party all the little details from the entrance canvases to the table decor, ceiling and cake design. I wont deny that it was quite a bit of work but it was also a good way to destress after a hectic day. Organising a colourful, fun and happy kids party is a great way to forget the stresses and strains of daily adult life.
So, what did I do for Paint Mikas First Canvas?
At the entrance, I had two big canvases, one with Mikas faces and his name on it, and for another clean canvas, we had brushes, rollers and acrylic colours for guests and children to express themselves on it. This would be our take-away memento from the party. I wanted the whole ceiling to be filled with balloons hanging down. I thought it would be easy enough but boy, was it tough! I roped in a cousin, my two sisters and a friend who spent a great deal of time tying and hanging. The end result wasnt quite what I had wanted, but it still looked fabulous.

Elie Saab has always been one of my favourite couture evening dress designers, and although he rarely mixes up his classic style and distinct couture mixture of lace, embellishment, chiffon, nipped in waists and billowing fabrics, you can’t help but fall in love with every look that he creates down the catwalk. There is such variety in the gown silhouettes and necklines, I am hoping some of these translate into next seasons bridal market!

I had the opportunity to meet him last evening when my friend Sowmya Jagganath invited me to the event and promised a one-on-one interview with him as well (to be uploaded here, shortly). While I have personally experienced that a number of Indian designers can be very stand-offish with major attitude problems, this petite man was simplicity personified. He did not hassle any one to hurry-up with their interviews and posed patiently with numerous fans who wanted to capture the moment with their favourite footwear designer. In fact, I didn’t see him relax and have a drink throughout the time he was there.
The event attracted a fair share of party people like actors Zayed Khan (who hung out with brother-in-law DJ Aqueel ), Alexx O’neil, Muzzamil Ibrahim and Dalip Tahil . But what really was show-stopping were the avant-garde outfits...
